Sew In Weave FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

About Sew in Weaves

What is a sew-in weave?

A sew-in weave is a hair extension method that involves attaching weft hair to a braided foundation using a needle and thread. Contrary to common misconception, the needle and thread are not sewn into the scalp but are used to secure the wefts onto the braids. The process begins with securely braiding the hair to create a smooth surface for attachment. Once the wefts are sewn onto the braids, your hair is styled, and you're good to go! Ultimately, sew-ins offer a safe way to protect your natural hair when done correctly.

How long do sew-in weave extensions last?

With proper care and maintenance, sew-in extensions can last between 6 to 10 weeks. It's recommended to visit a salon every two weeks for a clarifying deep wash, conditioning treatment, and proper drying of the braids. Aka, a retouch! Leaving extensions in for too long can lead to tangling and hair loss, emphasizing the importance of caring for your hair to promote healthy growth.

Retouch

The Weave Retouch includes a shampoo + conditioning, retightening of any loose tracks and restyling.

It is recommended every 2 weeks to properly care for your natural hair and weave. Proper maintenance will increase the life of your weave.

How often should you wash a sew-in weave?

Maintaining sew-in extensions can be challenging, especially for newcomers. Washing and properly drying your sew-in weave every two weeks is essential to care for your natural hair during the sew-in cycle. If you're unsure about the washing process, don't hesitate to schedule a consultation with us. We prioritize healthy hair and are ready to assist, even if we didn't install your sew-in.

*Client sew-in must have been installed at Salon de weave to qualify for this package.

Can a sew-in weave damage my hair?

Improper installation of sew-in weaves can indeed damage your hair. While some may believe that tighter braids result in longer-lasting sew-ins, excessively tight braids can lead to breakage and thinning. The goal of a sew-in weave is to protect and nurture your hair, so it's crucial to avoid excessively tight weaves. To prevent damage, it's best to seek professional installation from our salon.
